The Unmeasured
A boy raised inside a sanctuary receives a mechanical wren from the sister he was told had died beyond its boundary.

The story behind it
Arthur is fourteen when he and his ill older sister Alice start investigating missing library records and the engineered Hushwood boundary around the Vale. After Laurent stages Alice's death, four years pass. Then her walking ceramic messenger wren arrives through the western water channel.
Arthur reaches Lumen, learns that Alice chose both physical treatment and limited memory relief, and stops requiring her pain as proof of who she is. Underneath it: Mercy preserves the Vale as a genuine sanctuary and as a source of human development it did not prepare.
Process
- 01
Story first
The feature story is written scene by scene, with visible action and dialogue anchors, before any design. The dramatic question, the mystery ladder and the reversals live in a separate architecture doc so the story can be argued with.
- 02
Character bible
Intentions, wounds, contradictions, voices. The character images are story evidence, not decoration: Arthur closes physically across the time jump, Alice's Lumen design shows chosen separation, Laurent's softness complicates the betrayal.
- 03
World and covenant
The Vale, Lumen, Mercy, Hushwood. Technology, medicine and the covenant rules are written down so the mystery can be fair.
- 04
Painted-cutout 2.5D
Ink-embossed painted cutouts staged in dimensional space. Camera pushes, parallax, shallow focus. A moving illustration, not a flat cartoon.
